Welcome to the page dedicated to my Father’s foundation; Give A Life.
In 1998 My Papa needed a new heart, and quick! After a traumatic and turbulent journey he had his life saved by the donation of a heart from the family of a 21 year old woman in Nevada. You can read all about his experience both then and now on my recent blog post My Fathers Heart Currently, more than 116,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant to save their lives. In less than 5 minutes YOU have the ability to save up to 8 of those people with just the click of your mouse. ONE CLICK – HERE
The Bob Swanson Give A Life Foundation is a charitable and educational non profit association. Following Bob’s heart transplant in 1998, he learned that there were limited funds for organ donor awareness programs. With the help of friends and family, the Foundation was established with its primary purpose to:
1. Increase organ donor awareness in SE Florida communities through educational initiatives that encourage registration on State donor registries; and
2. Identify and provide donation to local organ donor families in need of support or financial assistance.
The Foundation has been instrumental in working with local community events, businesses, government, universities and schools to introduce organ donor awareness programs. In addition, the Foundation works in conjunction with other non-profit organizations in combining educational and awareness programs.
When transplant or donor families face temporary financial difficulties, the Foundation has established a grant program to assist them. Since its inception, 16 families have benefited from the program.
Volunteer
GAL members dedicate hundreds of hours annually to educate the public on the many benefits of organ and tissue donation. Volunteers are made up of people just like you from many different walks of life. Some members are organ donors, some are organ recipients, some are friends of donors or family to a recipient, and still others simply want to give something back to their community.
The easiest way to volunteer is to help with the One Click, Two Click program by spreading the word to families and friends. For more information, click here.
