I was a designer for 12 years, selling handbags and jewelry internationally and traveling to some incredibly inspiring places. More recently I’ve been veering off the path of the art of fashion and have been submerging myself in the art of food! I’ve dealt with food issues in the past and it has become increasingly important to me to engage in a positive way to embrace the healing properties that food has to offer and explore a wholesome connection to the earth.
In my latter years, I have always been a bit of a foodie, drawn to farmers markets, organic produce and religiously checking out every new eatery on the block – My dining partner in crime Charlie Pearson, has actually gone on to open a fantastic restaurant which if you are ever in the Los Angeles area you should absolutely go check out http://charliespantry.com/ I LOVE that we have both ended up in the career world of food as we started our love affair with it together all those years ago.
Now a culinary school graduate my passion is to continue to discover new and healing ways to fuel our bodies and I’m constantly on the search for wholesome edible treats to try. Just last week an Italian friend of my mother’s shared an old family recipe for her ‘Famous Carrot cake’. I haven’t tried it yet -but thought I’d share – let me know what you think.

Ingredients
9 oz grated carrots
8 oz wheat flour
8 table spoons maple syrup or honey
6 table spoons olive oil
4 table spoons yogurt
3.5 oz brown sugar
2 tea spoons baking powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Instructions
Mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder.
Add carrots, maple syrup, olive oil, yogurt.
Mix again to blend.
Pour into round cake pan and bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. Test with tooth pick to make sure it’s ready, if tooth pick is wet bake for 5 more minutes.
